Strong Investor Interest Anticipated for SpaceX's Potential IPO in the UAE and GCC

The anticipated IPO of Elon Musk's SpaceX is expected to garner significant interest from investors in the UAE and GCC, including sovereign wealth funds (SWFs), family-owned enterprises, and high-net-worth individuals, according to analysts.

Reports indicate that the US-based space company has confidentially filed for an initial public offering (IPO), potentially setting the stage for the largest stock market listing in history and making Musk the world's first trillionaire.

As the leader in rocket launches, SpaceX provides investors with exposure to long-term trends in areas such as space infrastructure, satellite communications, and the ambitious goals of returning humans to the Moon and eventually colonizing Mars.

A potential valuation exceeding $1.75 trillion would follow SpaceX's merger with Musk's artificial intelligence startup, xAI, which reportedly valued SpaceX at $1 trillion and xAI at $250 billion.

Analysts predict that the IPO could eclipse Saudi Aramco’s $29.4 billion listing in 2019, making it the largest IPO in history.

Neal Keane, head of global sales trading at ADSS, noted that UAE investors such as Alpha Dhabi Holding and Abu Dhabi's International Holding Company (IHC) have previously supported SpaceX and are likely to invest again, alongside sovereign wealth funds, family offices, and large institutional investors.

Market analyst Sam North from eToro stated that demand from the Gulf region is expected to be robust. “Entities like Saudi Arabia’s PIF and Abu Dhabi-based Alpha Dhabi have previously been linked to earlier funding rounds. For sovereign wealth funds, SpaceX is not just a space company; it is increasingly viewed as a strategic infrastructure and AI-driven investment, especially after its partnership with xAI,” he remarked.

He also highlighted that regional family offices, which are gravitating towards high-growth and venture-style investments, may regard SpaceX as a unique generational opportunity.

Vijay Valecha, chief investment officer at Century Financial, affirmed that the scale of the IPO almost guarantees significant participation from the GCC. “SWFs, family-owned businesses, and institutional investors across the GCC will undoubtedly show strong interest,” he stated.

Institutional Demand Likely to Dominate

Hamza Dweik, head of trading (Mena) at Saxo Bank, mentioned that interest is likely to come mainly from sovereign funds, large family offices, and institutional investors with long-term investment perspectives and a desire for deep-tech exposure. “The region has consistently demonstrated a willingness to invest in transformational sectors—from semiconductors and AI to energy transition and aerospace—and SpaceX is at the intersection of these themes,” he noted.

However, he cautioned that participation may be more skewed towards institutional allocations rather than retail investors, given the company's complexity and valuation. “For Middle Eastern investors, the appeal extends beyond financial returns to strategic relevance. Space infrastructure, communications resilience, and technological sovereignty are becoming increasingly critical on a global scale,” he added.

Dweik also warned that the IPO structure could be more selective compared to typical tech listings because of SpaceX's strategic importance and its connections to US government contracts.

How Investors Can Participate

Analysts believe the IPO will likely be open to international investors, including those from the UAE and GCC, depending on the final listing structure and regulatory framework; however, access to the primary offering may be limited.

“Foreign institutions, such as mutual funds, banks, and investment firms, can participate as Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs),” Valecha explained.

Retail investors outside the US are unlikely to receive primary allocations but may gain exposure once the stock begins trading on the secondary market. Keane added that retail participation could still be possible through global brokerage platforms that facilitate access to US IPOs.

While US listings typically focus on domestic investors, SpaceX’s international profile may encourage broader participation. North noted that the company has reportedly formed a bank syndicate aimed at expanding access beyond the US, potentially allowing UAE and GCC investors to participate through both international and locally partnered platforms.
